The National Student Consultative Council (MPPK) has suggested that the Teaching Practice Allowance be included in Budget 2024 in order to address the long-standing welfare concerns of teacher graduates. MPPK secretary Nik Ahmad Nuri Nik Ismail also proposed that the allowance be set at a minimum of RM800 per month and that the allocation for the allowance be fixed annually.
The proposal comes as the existing allowance provided is not uniform across all states and the amount is deemed insufficient compared to students undergoing industrial training in government institutions and government-linked companies (GLC), according to Nik Ahmad Nuri Nik Ismail.
Furthermore, he emphasized that some trainee teachers belong to the B40 group, hardcore poor, and asnaf, and therefore, are in desperate need of financial support, especially considering the rising cost of living.
In light of this, MPPK hopes that the welfare of teacher graduates will be prioritized and the proposed measures will be implemented to ensure their well-being is not overlooked.
