The Malaysia Cyber Consumer Association (MCCA) has called for the 2024 Budget to prioritize investments and strategies that drive the digital sector and 5G network technology. MCCA president Siraj Jalil stated that the digital world is experiencing advancements in technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Internet of Things (IoT), which enhance the country’s cyber landscape. To ensure that Malaysia remains at the forefront of the digital revolution, Siraj emphasized the need to prioritize 5G-related infrastructure and cyber security in the budget.

Siraj also highlighted the importance of equipping Malaysians with the necessary skills to fully utilize new technologies, especially those related to 5G. He emphasized the role of the private sector in accelerating the development of 5G technology through government-private partnerships that combine resources and expertise. According to Siraj, cyber security should also be a focus of the budget, as increased internet connectivity brings about security threats.

Yayasan Digital Malaysia CEO Nasru Syazwan Nawai emphasized the need to address cyber security issues, particularly from a legal standpoint, as many sectors and industries are moving towards digitalization. Nawai stressed the importance of ensuring security in the digital world and protecting users from issues such as data leaks, ransomware attacks, cyber espionage attempts, and cyber fraud.

The Unity Government allocated RM10 million to the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) in Budget 2023 for equipment upgrades, awareness campaigns, and the promotion of the 997 hotline. Prof Datuk Dr Ismail Sualman of Universiti Teknologi MARA highlighted the significance of expediting the development of the 5G network to stimulate the digital economy and various sectors including education, entertainment, health, and e-commerce.
