PUTRAJAYA: The Deputy Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, announced that Budget 2024 will be presented to the Dewan Rakyat on October 13. This news comes after the Parliament website mentioned the same date for the tabling of the Supply Bill, also known as the Budget. Normally, the federal budget is presented on the last Friday of October, but the government has decided to bring it forward by a week this year. This will allow more time for other matters, such as the tabling of additional bills, after the budget is presented. Ahmad confirmed the date during a press conference following his attendance at the Budget 2024 Consultation programme held at the Finance Ministry on July 14.
Last year, Budget 2023 was presented on October 7, three weeks ahead of the original scheduled date. Parliament was dissolved on October 10, paving the way for the 15th general election on November 19. Ahmad informed reporters that he, along with his deputy Steven Sim Chee Keong, will continue the budget consultation process, albeit on a smaller scale. The consultation will focus on various topics such as education, housing, health, green technology, and others. Additionally, the team plans to travel to all states to gather the public’s opinions and views. Ahmad extended an invitation to the Opposition, welcoming their input for the budget. He emphasized that all individuals, regardless of their political standing, are encouraged to contribute their ideas.
With the presentation of Budget 2024 on October 13, the government aims to ensure sufficient time for the consideration and implementation of additional bills. By engaging in a more focused budget consultation process, the government hopes to address key issues and allocate resources effectively across various sectors. The early tabling of the budget demonstrates the government’s commitment to transparency and efficiency, allowing stakeholders to prepare and provide input for the upcoming budget with ample time. By gathering opinions from all states, the government aims to represent the diverse needs and priorities of the nation. All individuals, including the Opposition, are encouraged to contribute their input, as the government believes that a collaborative approach leads to better policies and outcomes for the country.
