GEORGE TOWN: Malaysia’s objective of strengthening its ties with China to establish a robust strategic partnership was highlighted by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Speaking after a private meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the Eastern and Oriental hotel on Friday (Aug 11), Anwar emphasized the strong bond between Malaysia and China. He stated, “Our position is that the Malaysian and Chinese ties remain very strong, and further enhanced from the normal diplomatic partnership through strong, strategic partnership.” The discussions mainly revolved around cooperation and collaboration in areas such as investments, education, and regional issues.
Anwar further stated that he had engaged in dialogues with Wang Yi and other Malaysian ministers to strengthen bilateral relations. He emphasized the personal bond and friendship that they share, which facilitates private and international exchanges between the senior ministers of both countries. Additionally, Anwar expressed gratitude to Wang Yi for his role in facilitating significant Chinese investments in Malaysia, including petrochemical giant Rongsheng and carmaker Geely, as well as other key players.
Wang Yi’s visit to Malaysia was a courtesy call to meet with Anwar. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation and collaboration between the two nations. By strengthening their ties, Malaysia aims to build a strong strategic partnership with China. This will not only bolster bilateral relations but also provide numerous benefits in various sectors, including investments, education, and addressing regional issues. Anwar’s positive remarks about the Malaysian and Chinese ties reinforce the commitment to fostering a strong relationship between the two nations.
