KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman will probe further over 90 reports of misuse of MyKad during polling day for the six-state elections.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the reports were made when voters discovered that their MyKad was used by someone else to vote.

“We are investigating the matter further.

“Our initial findings indicate that most of the cases involved fake MyKad. However, the investigation is still at an early stage,” he told a press conference in Bukit Aman on Tuesday (Aug 15).

It was reported that 94 cases of misuse of MyKad were recorded during the voting process on polling day for the six-state elections.

The IGP had said it involved using other people’s MyKad when casting votes, which is an offence under Section 7 of the Election Offences Act.

“Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 48 cases, followed by Penang (20), Terengganu and Kedah (nine each), Negri Sembilan (six) and Kelantan (two).

“We are investigating the matter thoroughly,” he said.

Overall, the police received a total of 181 reports, with the bulk of it involving the misuse of MyKad on polling day.
