An anti-contraband operation carried out by Bukit Aman in Selangor resulted in seizures amounting to over RM30mil.
The three raids conducted in Kajang on September 7, which aimed to dismantle a major syndicate involved in smuggling untaxed cigarettes and alcohol, were successful. Bukit Aman’s internal security and public order department director, Comm Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali (pic), revealed that intelligence from the wildlife crime bureau/special investigation intelligence and the central brigade General Operations Force prompted the operation.
The operation also led to the discovery of two labs processing counterfeit alcohol intended for sale in the Klang Valley area.
“A total of 10 individuals, including five Malaysians and five foreigners, were apprehended during the raid. The raid resulted in the confiscation of 73,800 cartons of cigarettes and 24,573 boxes of untaxed liqueur,” he stated in a press release on Friday (September 15).
Furthermore, various alcohol processing equipment and three cars were seized. The total value of the confiscated goods is estimated to be around RM36,478,585.25,” he added. All suspects have been detained at the Kajang police headquarters.
Alongside this operation, Comm Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali highlighted that anti-contraband and anti-wildlife smuggling operations have resulted in the arrest of 3,764 individuals from January 1 to September 14, 2023.
The contraband confiscated during these operations included wild animals and counterfeit medicine with a combined estimated value of RM726.4mil.
