A Melaka assemblyman is pushing for the upgrade of the 60-year-old Bukit Rambai health clinic in order to provide better healthcare and dental services to the local community. Klebang assemblyman Datuk Lim Ban Hong stated that numerous requests have been received for the clinic to be renovated and expanded.
Lim Ban Hong explained that the long waiting queue at the clinic was one of the factors taken into consideration when considering the need for improved infrastructure and more space for patients. Currently, the clinic receives an average of 324 patients per day, making up a total of 6,713 patients seeking treatment each month. The clinic first opened its doors in 1963.
During a visit to the proposed site for the clinic’s extension at Bukit Rambai, Lim Ban Hong, together with Melaka Health Department’s director Datuk Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman, disclosed that the extension is planned to be carried out on a 1.82ha site, with an estimated project cost ranging between RM35mil to RM38mil. It is projected that the construction work will commence in 2026, once approval is obtained from the Ministry of Health.
Upon completion of the upgrade, the clinic will be able to serve 800 patients daily.
Meanwhile, Dr Rusdi announced that applications have been submitted for the construction of six new health clinics in Melaka. These clinics will be located in areas such as Sungai Rambai, Simpang Ampat, Padang Sebang, Bukit Rambai, Cheng, and Bukit Katil. These new medical facilities will be type three health clinics, capable of providing health services to 300 to 500 people per day.
Overall, the plan to upgrade the Bukit Rambai health clinic and the construction of new health clinics shows the government’s commitment to improving healthcare services in Melaka. These efforts will ensure that the local community has access to medical facilities and services, ultimately enhancing the overall well-being of the residents.
