JOHOR BARU: An owner of a children’s game machine business and his employee have been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly offering a bribe to a city council enforcement officer. The 45-year-old suspect and his 21-year-old employee were apprehended at around 1am at the Johor MACC headquarters on Friday.
Sources revealed that the suspects had purportedly given a RM4,000 bribe to an Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) enforcement officer to avoid any action being taken against their business premises. The suspects’ business was found to be operating without a valid MBIP licence and had been previously issued a notice to cease their activities for violating licensing regulations under the council’s by-law.
Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the arrests, stating that the case is being examined under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009. He cautioned the public against attempting to bribe public servants as it is a punishable offense.
