MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong attended the 5th Unity Government Leadership Consultative Council meeting on Tuesday (Aug 29) night, to discuss various matters including the preparations for the by-elections of the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state seats.

In a post on Facebook, Dr Wee said that the meeting, which was chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, discussed various issues, including efforts to improve the people’s agenda and national development, specifically efforts to boost economic growth.

“The meeting tonight also addressed various matters, including the preparations being taken by the unity government machinery in facing the Pulai and the Pelangai polls,” he said today (Aug 29).

The meeting was held at Seri Perdana, Putrajaya.

The Election Commission has set polling for the by-elections for the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state seats on Sept 9.

Also present at the meeting were Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf, and other party presidents as well as representatives of the respective parties under the unity government.

The Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections are being called due to the unexpected vacancy of the seats following the death of the incumbent, Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, on July 23.

Salahuddin, who was domestic trade minister, died at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star, Kedah, a day after undergoing surgery for a brain haemorrhage. He was 61.

Scheduled for September 9, the Election Commission has fixed the polling for the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state seats by-elections. Besides Dr Wee, other significant figures present at the meeting included Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf, party presidents from different parties, and representatives of the unity government’s respective parties. The necessity for these by-elections arises due to the sudden vacancy caused by the demise of the incumbent, Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, on July 23.

The late Salahuddin Ayub, who held the position of domestic trade minister, passed away at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star, Kedah. Unfortunately, he couldn’t survive the surgery performed to address a brain haemorrhage. At the age of 61, Malaysia lost a significant political figure.
