KUALA LUMPUR: The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) is currently investigating the use of four drones in separate incidents during nomination day on Saturday (July 29). One of the cases has been categorized as intentionally causing harm, according to CAAM.
The police have detained the four operators and confiscated the drones, as stated in a press release by CAAM’s chief executive officer, Capt Norazman Mahmud.
“Out of the four reported cases, one resulted in an unfortunate incident where an agricultural drone crashed and caused injury to an individual,” Capt Norazman said. He further noted that the victim was promptly taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
“The incident is presently being investigated by CAAM in accordance with the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016, and the police are also conducting an investigation under Section 325 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing grievous hurt,” he added on Sunday (July 30).
Anyone found guilty of such an offense may face a prison sentence of up to seven years, a fine, or both, Capt Norazman explained.
In light of these incidents, CAAM has reminded the public that the use of drones is strictly prohibited throughout the six state elections period, which includes nomination day, early voting on August 8, election day on August 12, as well as the 14-day campaign period.
