GEORGE TOWN: Steven Sim Chee Keong, the Member of Parliament for Bukit Mertajam, has expressed his determination to continue working towards improving the welfare and status of workers in Malaysia as the newly appointed Human Resources Minister.
In a post on Facebook on Tuesday (Dec 12) after the Cabinet reshuffle, Sim declared, “I undertake the entrusted responsibility with full gratitude and pledge to strive to uplift the dignity of workers, regardless of their race or religion.”
Sim also shared a picture of himself with his wife Chan Jo Rin in the post.
He expressed his gratitude towards his wife, describing her as his constant support, and also mentioned that some people have labeled him as having “a HR (human resources) face”.
Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had announced a Cabinet reshuffle involving the exchange of several portfolios and the appointment of new ministers and deputy ministers.
Sim has taken over the role from V. Sivakumar as the Human Resources Minister.
Previously, Sim served as the deputy finance minister II in the unity government Cabinet.
Following the 2018 GE14, he held the position of deputy youth and sports minister.
Meanwhile, Lipis MP Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad was appointed as the Deputy Human Resources Minister, having previously served as the deputy public works minister.
