The Sarawak Premier, Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, has expressed optimism about Malaysia’s green future following the appointment of Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof as the new Energy Transition and Public Utilities Minister.
Abang Johari Tun Openg emphasized the state’s focus on renewable energy and stated that Fadillah’s appointment was fitting to realign energy policies and position Malaysia as a green hub in the region. He thanked the Prime Minister for entrusting Fadillah with the energy portfolio.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in a Cabinet reshuffle, announced that Fadillah would retain his position as Deputy Prime Minister and take on the role of Energy Transition and Public Utilities Minister. This new ministry was separated from the former natural resources, environment, and climate change ministry. Fadillah was also given additional responsibilities related to Sabah and Sarawak.
Previously, Fadillah held the position of plantation and commodities minister.
