Diplomats lead global celebrations in Taiping

PEACE requires an active effort to maintain.

Poland’s Ambassador to Malaysia Krzysztof Dobrowolski said this at International Day of Peace celebrations in Taiping.

In his remarks, Dobrowolski spoke about the importance of peace and cooperation in the world today.

“Peace is not just the absence of war. It is a positive state of affairs that requires an active effort to maintain.

“We must all work together to build a more peaceful world.”

The celebrations, held at St George’s Institution, consisted of the opening of an exhibition on Nicolaus Copernicus with a theme of science for peace, the laying of wreaths at Taiping War Cemetery, a peace talk by Ukraine Chargé d’Affaires Denys Mykhailiuk and the planting of peace trees.

The event was jointly organised by the Embassy of Poland in Malaysia and Partners for Peace Malaysia, a non-governmental organisation.

The exhibition on Copernicus showcased the life and work of the astronomer and mathematician, highlighting his contributions to science and his discovery that the Earth revolves around the Sun.

The talk by Mykhailiuk titled “The Power of Peace” focused on the importance of peace in Ukraine and around the world.

Mykhailiuk spoke about the devastating impact of the war in Ukraine and the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict based on territorial integrity and sovereignty with respect to all nations.

During the talk, Datuk Chen Teck Ming, the Malaysia Book of Records’ largest 3D mural record holder, created a painting dedicated to peace, which was later presented to St George’s Institution by the dignitaries in a signing ceremony.

The peace trees, which were planted by Dobrowolski and other dignitaries, are a symbol of hope for a more peaceful future.

The trees will be a reminder of the importance of peace and cooperation for generations to come.

The International Day of Peace is a global event observed on Sept 21 each year.

The day was established by the United Nations in 1981 to promote peace and non-violence around the world.

The diplomats also paid a visit to Sekolah Semangat Maju Taiping, which has received aid through fundraising organised by the Spouses of Heads of Missions since 2019.
