Ratu Naga, also known as Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah, responded to an investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) by stating that she has no links to Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin and suggested that the MACC should focus on him instead, as she is only an activist on social media.

In a video posted on TikTok on Friday (Feb 16), she expressed her frustration at being linked to Shamsul Iskandar and urged the MACC to refrain from involving her in political games.

She also pointed out that it would be more relevant for the MACC to investigate Shamsul Iskandar, who serves as the political secretary to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Ratu Naga revealed that she initially thought the MACC’s raid on her house was related to two reports she had lodged with them: the first on Jan 15 regarding Anwar and the second on Jan 8 on information from the leaked Pandora Papers on Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

She later learned that she was being investigated for alleged links to the Prime Minister’s political secretary, which came as a surprise to her.

Syarul Ema further claimed that MACC officers did not provide a clear explanation for the investigation and that she was not allowed to access her lawyer or her husband while being questioned at MACC headquarters.

Despite her lawyer being present, she was not permitted to speak to her, adding to her frustration with the process.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki stated that Ratu Naga was summoned to record her statement to aid an investigation under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.

Prior to this investigation, Ratu Naga was the subject of a police probe in October 2023 over social media posts allegedly defaming Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, the wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In December 2023, she filed a lawsuit against the government seeking to nullify a provision in the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 that requires organizers to inform police about gatherings in advance, claiming it is not enforceable.
