If you want to witness Malaysia’s history firsthand, a captivating art exhibition titled “Timeless Memories” is currently being held at Inner Joy Gallery in Petaling Jaya. The exhibition, which runs from August 31 to October 15, is organized in conjunction with National Day and Malaysia Day on September 16.
Curated by Dymphna Lanjuran and Selena Wong, the exhibition features 35 masterpieces created by 11 Malaysian artists and four international artists from China. These artworks depict collective memories of the nation, encompassing Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage and historical milestones.
One of the artists, Eugene, alongside other exhibitors, can be seen in the gallery with some of their captivating pieces (see image below).
The participating artists include Wong Kean Choon, Mustafa Yahya, Mat Aris Suradi, Dr Perline Siek Hwee Ling, Loo Seak Lee, Herman WSY, Alex Liong Chen Hui, Dymphna, Unia Wang, Eugene Nandakumar, Lim Yong Wei, Yan Xin, Jackson Xie, Black Wang, and Adrian YRZ. Together, their artworks beautifully capture the essence of Malaysia’s cultural diversity and cherished moments that have shaped the nation’s identity.
Dymphna, the art director of the exhibition, emphasized the importance of heritage and unity, stating that “Timeless Memories” encourages visitors to commemorate their roots while celebrating aspirations (see image below).
In each stroke of the brush and every intricacy of the medium used, a tapestry of emotions can be found as viewers venture through the gallery. The artists have skillfully immortalized fleeting moments, emotions, and landmarks, symbolizing the thread that connects Malaysia’s past, present, and future.
Mat Aris, a 64-year-old artist with a fine arts degree, drew inspiration from his upbringing in Hulu Langat, Selangor. His paintings, predominantly in watercolor, depict scenes from his home and the surrounding jungles where he used to gather resources to earn a living.
During the exhibition launch, Hesmel Faznee Ahmad Faisal, the assistant director of Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry’s National Department for Culture and Arts product development division, highlighted how the exhibition represents the enduring memories of the nation. He also expressed appreciation for the unique perspectives brought by the four distinguished artists visiting from China (see image below).
