The driver of the car involved in a tragic accident in Sipitang, which resulted in the deaths of two individuals, was attempting to evade a pursuing Road Transport Department (JPJ) enforcement team. According to Sipitang district police chief Deputy Supt Mail Sundongi, the 19-year-old driver and a 14-year-old girl in the back seat were killed instantly when the car crashed into a ditch along the Sabah Forest Industries road around 5:10 pm on Wednesday (Feb 16).
DSP Mail stated that the car, which was carrying five people and heading to Kampung Sibubu, was signaled to pull over by a JPJ enforcement team. However, the driver chose to speed away, prompting a pursuit. The driver ultimately lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road.

DSP Mail added that the JPJ enforcement officials promptly alerted the police about the accident. Firefighters were summoned to help extract the bodies of the two victims trapped inside the car, while the three other passengers were swiftly transported to the hospital for medical attention.
The incident is currently under investigation in accordance with Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
