MELAKA: According to Kol (PA) Mike Thein, caregivers for cancer patients will soon be volunteers of the Civil Defence Force (APM).

The Melaka Civil Defence Force associate corporate officers chairman mentioned that these caregivers will also assist in training youth on social and healthcare topics and promote the spirit of volunteerism among young individuals.

“The main objective is to establish a community team, with a particular emphasis on the healthcare field, and gradually build a strong team of volunteers,” he stated on Wednesday (Oct 18). The signing of a memorandum of understanding between APM and the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) took place at Ames Hotel in Ayer Keroh on the same day. Melaka APM director Lt Kol (PA) Kamarulsyah Muslim and NCSM managing director Dr M. Murallitharan were present as well.

Thein revealed that NCSM will become a strategic partner to support the healthcare volunteer system in recruiting more young individuals to become caregivers.

He further mentioned that NCSM has been enlisted to provide training and skills to the new healthcare sector volunteers.
