KOTA KINABALU: The Civil Defence Force (APM) successfully captured a three-metre-long reticulated python inside a geese enclosure at a Penampang residential area on Sunday (July 30).
A video was earlier circulated on social media on the incident, where the snake was seen in the midst of swallowing a goose when the team arrived to address the situation.
According to Penampang APM in a Facebook post, the resident who filed the report initially heard loud noises at the back of her house and checked to find there was a snake at the geese pen.
The resident then called MERS999 for assistance and a team of four went to the location in full gear and equipment to capture the reptile.
“The snake, estimated to weigh around 8kg, was captured using snake tongs (grabber) and a snake pole.
“The team also inspected the surrounding area to ensure there are no more risks.
“Also to ensure public safety as well as the conservation of the animal, the python was released at a forest far from residential area so it can return to its habitat,” said Penampang APM in the Facebook post.
