A tragic incident occurred in Batu Kawa, Kuching, as a fire engulfed five double-storey terrace houses at the people’s housing scheme on August 28. Tragically, the charred remains of a six-year-old boy, identified as Zayyan Nazeem Zainal Abidin, were discovered inside one of the houses. The discovery was made at 3.33pm by a team of 18 officers and firefighters from the Batu Lintang and Padungan fire stations who successfully extinguished the fire.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (PGO) spokesperson, it is believed that the victim was trapped inside the room where the remains were found during the incident. The charred remains have been handed over to the police for further investigation. The center received an emergency call at 1.12pm, prompting their prompt arrival at the scene. Upon arrival, residents informed the firefighters about the child who was still trapped inside one of the burning houses.
The authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of damages. Further details regarding the incident have not been provided at this time.
