KUALA LUMPUR: Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, was released early on Friday (Sept 15) after giving his statement to the police, according to Perikatan Nasional (PN) Youth leader Ahmad Fadhli Shaari’s Facebook page. The release occurred at 2.15am.
“Alhamdulilah CikguBard (Chegubard) was released this morning at 2.15am after giving his statement.
“Move Forward! Save Malaysia,” the post said.
Although there were speculations that the blogger had been arrested by the police due to the planned “Save Malaysia Movement” (Gerakan Selamatkan Malaysia) assembly the next day, Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain clarified in a press conference that his arrest had no connection to it.
“We had to arrest him because he did not cooperate in providing his statement,” said Comm Mohd Shuhaily during a press conference at Dang Wangi police headquarters on Thursday (Sept 14) night.
He further added that the arrest was related to several police reports filed against the blogger, including the leaked documents from a government department and the disclosure of assets belonging to the country’s leaders.
