KUALA LUMPUR: Badrul Hisham Shaharin, who is commonly known as Chegubard, was arrested on Thursday (Sept 14) regarding various police reports filed against him, and not because of the rally that took place on Saturday, according to the police.
Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain stated that Chegubard was detained around 8pm on Jalan Raja Laut.
“He was apprehended in relation to six police reports and five investigation papers involving him,” Comm Mohd Shuhaily mentioned.
“We had to arrest him as he refused to cooperate in providing his statement,” he added.
“The purpose of this press conference is to reject the speculation that Chegubard was arrested because of Saturday’s (Sept 16) rally,” he announced during a press conference at the Dang Wangi police headquarters on Thursday (Sept 14) night.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily stated that Chegubard is being investigated for several police reports filed against him, including the leakage of documents from a government department and his disclosure of assets belonging to the country’s leaders.
“We attempted to summon him multiple times to have his statement recorded, but he refused to attend,” Comm Mohd Shuhaily explained.
“We even issued a notice under the Criminal Procedure Code, instructing him to appear…he signed the document and stated that he was not willing to go to the nearest police station to have his statement recorded,” he said.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily pointed out that the police had no other choice but to arrest Chegubard.
“We have six reports against him that require investigation, and we are unable to proceed due to his lack of cooperation,” he said.
“According to our officers, he informed them that he will not go to any police station to provide his statement,” Comm Mohd Shuhaily mentioned.
“Even former prime ministers are willing to cooperate with us. This is just a part of the investigation process, not prosecution,” he assured.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily assured that the police will make every effort to expedite the recording of Chegubard’s statement.
“There are five investigation papers, so it will take some time, but we assure you that we will do it as quickly as possible,” he added.
