The acting mayor of Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), Cheremi Tarman, was sworn in on Friday (Oct 27).
Cheremi announced that the former mayor, Dr Nor Fuad Abdul Hamid, has been promoted and transferred to the Transport Ministry as deputy chief secretary (Management). This promotion and transfer also took effect from Friday.
Prior to becoming the Shah Alam mayor in December, Nor Fuad served as the Selangor deputy state secretary (development) and state Economic Planning Unit (EPU) director.
Cheremi stated that he plans to carry on Nor Fuad’s legacy and any improvements will be fully discussed with council members at the administrative level. He previously held the position of deputy mayor.
He added, “For matters that haven’t been implemented yet, we will act promptly. For those that have been implemented, we will review and enhance them, especially concerning the concept of a livable city.”
The acting mayor emphasized his focus on providing basic services such as road repairs, streetlights, waste management, landscaping, and public comfort. He mentioned that the majority of MBSA’s allocation is dedicated to community service work.
During his speech at the council’s full board meeting at Wisma MBSA after his swearing-in ceremony, Cheremi expressed his gratitude to the state government for entrusting him with the temporary role of mayor, which will last for a maximum of six months.
