PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong stated that chicken farmers in Johor have not been receiving subsidies since July 2022, causing significant impact on their cash flow.
Dr Wee highlighted the issue, stating he brought it up in Dewan Rakyat in February and followed up by submitting information of the complainants in a briefing four months ago.
In a Facebook post on Thursday (Nov 9), Dr Wee mentioned “I also highlighted in the Dewan Rakyat the case of the Klang Valley Farmers Association president who allegedly bribed a ministry official to expedite the chicken and eggs subsidy payment.”
He added, “The official had since been remanded by the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission. I hope such a practice will not become a trend.”
Dr Wee appealed to the government to allow small and medium farmers to continue their operations without being subject to the condition of constructing enclosures that would cost as high as RM10mil.
“Not all farmers have the capability to fulfill this condition; having small and medium farmers who can produce 30,000 to 50,000 chickens will ensure that we have a sufficient supply of chicken and eggs,” he added.
