PETALING JAYA: The discontinuation of subsidies and price controls on chicken will begin on November 1, according to Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, the Agriculture and Food Security Minister. However, subsidies for grade A, B, and C eggs will continue under the existing mechanism.
In a press conference held on Monday (October 30), he stated that the decision to end subsidies for chicken is part of the government’s phased approach in retargeting subsidies. The main reason behind this move is to reduce the leakage of subsidies, which are currently being enjoyed by both foreigners and high-income groups.
More details will be provided soon.
