China will support the implementation of Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar made this statement during a press conference held at Nanning Marriott Hotel after a bilateral meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang. NIMP 2030 aims to transform Malaysia into a high-tech nation within seven years and requires an investment of RM95bil.

Anwar revealed that Li expressed the desire for more Chinese companies to invest in Malaysia and emphasized the importance of upskilling. Chinese companies have a positive opinion of Malaysian professionals, engineers, technicians, and IT experts due to their dedication and discipline. Anwar stressed the need to increase research and provide special training programs during meetings with China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), Geely, and Huawei.

In addition, Anwar highlighted the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) worth RM19.84bil with Chinese companies. One of the notable achievements was China’s request to increase palm oil purchase from Malaysia by 500,000 tonnes, which signifies a significant increase. The first MOU worth RM15bil was signed between Citaglobal Berhad and Shanghai Sus Environment to explore collaboration in developing waste-to-energy power plants in Malaysia. PM Access World and Beibu Gulf Port Group signed the second RM2.34bil MOU, focusing on warehousing and logistics cooperation to support the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor. The last MOU, worth RM2.5bil, involved Sime Darby Oils International Limited and Guangxi Beibu Gulf International Port Group to establish a trading and distribution center for refined palm oil and shortening in Qinzhou.

The MOU signings were witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and attended by Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Chan Foong Hin, Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming, and Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin. Following the press conference, Anwar is expected to return to Kuala Lumpur on Sunday and participate in the ongoing Parliament meeting scheduled for Monday.
