PETALING JAYA: The Chinese Studies Department of Universiti Malaya has reached a significant milestone of 60 years, thanks to the support from both the university and Chinese community, according to the King.
During the 60th anniversary gala dinner held at Dewan Tunku Canselor, Universiti Malaya, on Saturday (Oct 28), Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah acknowledged the importance of this milestone in the Chinese viewpoint. He said, “It represents the completion of a complete cycle and a new beginning.”
His Majesty further added, “The firm support and empowerment provided by the faculty and university management were crucial in achieving this milestone.”
Adding a touch of royalty to the event, Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah also graced the anniversary celebration.
The King highlighted the unwavering support of the Chinese community, stating, “You have sent your best youths to the university, provided scholarships, and funded various projects over the past six decades. Your commitment and dedication have played a pivotal role in complementing the quality education envisioned by our country and the institution.”
He emphasized the significant role universities play in Malaysia’s future and encouraged the staff and lecturers of the department to remain vigilant in their teaching and research endeavors.
His Majesty concluded his address by wishing success for the students and alumni, expressing his hopes for the continuous growth and prosperity of the department and the nation.
The 60th anniversary of the Chinese Studies Department at Universiti Malaya carries the theme “60 Years of Educational Endeavor, Enhancing and Innovating Cultural Heritage.”
