A Chinese solar cell encapsulant film manufacturer has committed to investing RM2bil in the construction of a factory in Tasek Industrial Park, located in Ipoh. Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad stated that the factory is anticipated to commence operations by the first quarter of 2024. With a capacity of producing 85 million square meters of solar cell encapsulants, the factory aims to cover approximately 10GW demand. Saarani added that the investment will be divided into several phases, eventually reaching a production capacity of 300 million square meters of encapsulants to meet approximately 30GW demand.
Upon completion and full operation, the factory is expected to create around 300 employment opportunities. The memorandum of understanding signing ceremony between Zhejiang Sinopont Technology Co Ltd (Sinopont) and Perak Investment Management Centre (InvestPerak) took place at Sinopont’s headquarters in Hangzhou, China. This event was witnessed by Saarani during his investment promotion mission in China from October 15 to 21.
Saarani expressed his belief that the RM2bil investment demonstrates the strong confidence foreign investors have in Perak, and emphasized the state government’s commitment to facilitating a conducive environment for investors. The state will strive to strengthen its relationship with the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority, with the aim of promoting Perak as the preferred investment destination in Malaysia. InvestPerak’s CEO, Mohamad Hashim Abdul Ghani, highlighted the strategic location of Perak between Penang and Selangor, two major industrial hubs in Malaysia. This advantageous position positions Perak favorably for companies that manufacture products or provide services for multinational corporations in both states, allowing them convenient access to both markets.
