During ground digging works in Tawau on Wednesday (Nov 29), six workers, one Indonesian and five Filipino, were exposed to a gas leak and rushed to the district hospital. The Fire and Rescue Department was alerted to the incident at 5.37pm, which took place at Pegagau Agriculture Wakuba.
The Tawau district hospital received six victims aged between 43 to 19 years old – two in the red zone, four in the yellow zone – who were brought into the emergency division following the gas leakage, which is believed to be chlorine gas.
A spokesperson for the Department stated that a team rushed to the scene and found that the gas leak occurred around 11am during ground digging works using an excavator at the workers’ quarters site. They conducted zoning section on-site and collected data of the material involved. Information will be updated from time to time.
