GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow stated that the Penang government is unaware of the proposal to establish a special financial zone (SFZ) in the state. He mentioned that the state government has no information regarding the proposal, which is similar to the one in Forest City, Johor. Chow hopes that the relevant ministry will address the proposal at the end of the debate.
During a debate on the 12th Malaysia Plan mid-term review, Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng suggested that the government should create an SFZ in Penang, following the announcement by the Prime Minister to establish the SFZ in Forest City in order to enhance investment, growth, and economic activities in Johor. Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim added that the SFZ would offer more affordable business opportunities due to various incentives provided by the government.
