CHUKAI: A teenage boy has been hospitalised after eating poison-laced biscuits that he found on the fence of a farm here.

Kemaman District Police Chief Supt Hanyan Ramlan said the incident occurred around 2pm on Friday (July 12) when the 13-year-old from Kampung Air Putih was on his way to fish at a nearby river.

He said the boy, who was passing by the farm, ate the biscuits that were placed in a plastic bag before collapsing and losing consciousness.

“The boy was found on the ground unconscious by his friend’s father.

“He was taken to a nearby health clinic before being rushed to Kemaman Hospital for emergency treatment,” he said when contacted on Sunday (July 14).

Hanyan said that the teenager is in stable condition and still receiving treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001, which covers offences involving child abuse, neglect, abandonment or exposure.

The crackers were hung on a fence and were supposed to ward off wild monkeys. – Bernama
