SHAH ALAM: The state government of Selangor has stated that the Insurans Hayat Selangor (Insan) life insurance scheme, which is designed to protect Selangor residents, does not have any data leakage issues. The Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI Selangor) said in a statement that the allegations of leaked data are inaccurate. It was further mentioned that some irresponsible parties have misused the Insan programme website for malicious purposes. To address this, the website is being strengthened with additional security features and will be operational soon.
The Insan programme, initiated by the Selangor government on October 1, 2022, aims to provide general insurance protection to six million Selangor residents, with MBI Selangor serving as the implementing agency and Wavpay Fintech Holding Sdn Bhd as the service operator. The objective of Insan is to alleviate the financial burden of insured individuals in the event of accidents or death, particularly due to the reported increase in road accidents in Malaysia, rising from 370,286 in 2021 to 545,588 in 2022.
In response to complaints regarding the registration process, especially for elderly individuals, the Selangor government has implemented an automatic pre-registration system. This system matches the Electoral Commission’s voter register information with the identity card numbers of Selangor citizens and residents. Although this automatic pre-registration simplifies the insurance policy issuance for residents, each policy recipient is required to complete the self-verification process and agree to accept the protection offer.
