Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah emphasized the importance of every nation identifying and mapping their response and healthcare networks in order to develop a comprehensive strategy for handling health emergencies. He made this statement after chairing the 3rd WHO Standing Committee on Health Emergency Prevention, Preparedness and Response (SCHEPPR) in Geneva on September 13. He also highlighted the need to respond promptly and efficiently to health crises, as well as strengthen the global coordinated response.
Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the former Health director-general, believes that the Covid-19 pandemic has provided valuable lessons that can be used to create a resilient and better-prepared health system for the future. The standing committee serves as an important platform for members to discuss and stay informed about global health emergencies. It also aims to enhance the decision-making, strategic action, and governance of the WHO during crises and emergencies.
