KOTA KINABALU: A Taiwanese climber had to be carried down Mount Kinabalu after twisting his ankle at KM8.4 of the summit trail early Sunday (Oct 6).

Ranau fire station chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said the 44-year-old was on his way down the summit when he slipped and twisted his left ankle at around 6am.

He said the man could not continue with the hike and had to ask for help to get down.

“The man was given first aid at the scene before he was placed on a stretcher and carried down,” he said when contacted on Monday (Oct 7).

Ridwan said seven mountain search and rescue rangers were assigned to bring the man down, and they managed to reach the trail’s starting point at Timpohon gate before 3pm.

Medical officials on standby there then took the climber to hospital by ambulance.

“Operations on site ended at 3.04pm,” he said.
