Four food processing factories in Melaka have been ordered to temporarily cease operations after rat droppings were discovered inside their premises. The notices were given to the factories located in Batu Berendam, Bukit Rambai, Serkam, and Umbai during a series of operations conducted by health officers. The two-day operation involved the participation of 30 officers from all three districts in the region.
During the inspections, 15 compound notices totaling RM35,200 were issued under the Food Act 1983. Four of the premises were ordered to close temporarily due to their failure to maintain a satisfactory level of cleanliness. Melaka Health director Datuk Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman made the announcement on Wednesday (Aug 2).
This is not the first time strict action has been taken against food processing factories in Melaka. Since the beginning of this year, a total of 61 factories have faced stern action, and five of them have been ordered to suspend operations, resulting in compound fines amounting to RM48,400. Additionally, 12 factories have received compound notices totaling RM30,000 for non-compliance with food hygiene regulations.
