At a vocational college in Lahad Datu, a tragic incident took place where a hostel student was allegedly beaten to death following a misunderstanding. The victim, a 17-year-old, was discovered unconscious in a dorm room at approximately 6.50am on Friday (March 22).
The director of the college reported the incident to the police, with Lahad Datu OCPD ACP Dr Rohan Shah Ahmad confirming the details. Medical personnel who arrived at the scene declared the victim deceased on site.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim was found unconscious on the floor of a dorm room with visible injuries and bruises, indicating a violent altercation. ACP Rohan suggested that the incident may have occurred due to a misunderstanding between the victim and other students.
Thirteen students, aged between 16 and 19, were apprehended to assist with the investigation, and a smartphone charger was seized as potential evidence. The altercation is suspected to have revolved around a dispute over the said phone charger.
Authorities urge the public not to speculate on the case and to allow the police to conduct their inquiries. ACP Rohan assured that the investigation is being approached comprehensively, exploring all possible angles and motives.
The tragic event is currently being treated as a murder investigation, as authorities work diligently to uncover the truth behind the student’s tragic demise.
