A 20-year-old college student who is currently pursuing a diploma was discovered to have fabricated a report claiming she had been raped by an intruder after becoming pregnant through a consensual relationship with her boyfriend.
Jempol OCPD Supt Hoo Chang Hook shared that the student admitted to making the false report out of fear that her family would find out about her boyfriend and the fact that she was carrying a child.
Supt Hoo stated, “The student had lodged a report that an unidentified man in a mask had entered her house around 6.15pm on Jan 16, claiming that the man then forced her into a room and sexually assaulted her.”
Despite inconsistencies in the student’s account, a forensic team was dispatched to search for evidence at her residence, but none was found. Subsequently, the girl underwent a medical examination at Jempol Hospital, where it was confirmed that she was five months pregnant and had not sustained any injuries as a result of the alleged assault.
Following her report, the police reviewed her phone conversations with her boyfriend, which led them to question the credibility of her story, prompting further interrogation.
“It was only then she admitted that she had lodged a false report,” Supt Hoo said. “She admitted to having had consensual relations with her boyfriend and had become pregnant as a result.”
The student’s case is currently being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code, where offenders can face up to six months in jail, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction.
