A special committee has been established to investigate the case involving the Dhamma Sakyamuni Caves Monastery, according to Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad (pic).
The Perak Mentri Besar announced that the committee, led by state national integration committee chairman A. Sivanesan, will assess the situation and take appropriate action.
“As the decision is within the court’s jurisdiction, we cannot provide any interpretations without careful consideration. Sivanesan will meet with the representatives of the monastery and the cement manufacturers in order to hear both sides,” he explained.
Saarani made these statements during a press conference at the Karnival Mesra Anak Muda (Youth Carnival) held at Stadium Indera Mulia in Ipoh on Sunday (September 17).
He emphasized that the state will handle the case in accordance with the law.
The Court of Appeal recently overturned the Ipoh High Court’s ruling and granted permission for cement manufacturer Associated Pan Malaysia Cement to evict the century-old Buddhist monastery located in Kanthan, Chemor.
The three-member panel of judges in the appellate court concluded that the monastery had not presented any valid arguments that would prevent the eviction order.
Last October, the High Court had rejected the cement company’s request for eviction.
