BANTING: The Communications and Digital Ministry is taking steps to enhance Internet coverage along roads that connect populated areas, according to Minister Fahmi Fadzil. He emphasized that Internet access is now considered a fundamental facility, right alongside roads, electricity, water, and drainage systems. In line with this, the ministry, together with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), will address the issue. Fahmi’s concern about better connectivity along roads was sparked by his recent working visit to Negri Sembilan, where he noticed the lack of Internet access while traveling from the Rembau area to Felda Palong 11 in Jempol.
During the Selangor state-level “Kita Madani” program in Kampung Bukit Changgang, Banting, Fahmi mentioned, “In Rembau and Felda Palong 11, the Internet access is fantastic, but along the way, there is no Internet. So, I see there is a need for the ministry and MCMC to look into some things regarding Internet coverage on the road.”
Fahmi further highlighted that the fixed broadband penetration rate in Selangor was 61.6% in the first quarter of this year, while the total mobile broadband penetration rate reached 126.1%. These figures represent positive progress, affirming the government’s commitment to ensuring the best possible level of Internet access in Selangor.
