KULAI: Teo Nie Ching announced that the Communications and Digital Ministry will collaborate with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister to combat misinformation that leads to panic buying. The Deputy Communications and Digital Minister highlighted the importance of providing accurate information to the public in order to prevent panic buying and shortages of essential goods. Teo assured that the ministry will assist in ensuring the public receives the correct message.
During her visit to Pasar Tani Jalan Merbau, Bandar Putra, where she distributed 120 tents to traders, Teo spoke to reporters and urged the public to report any instances of misinformation to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). She further added that although the MCMC has not received any reports so far, it is essential for the public to come forward with such information so that appropriate action can be taken.
In response to a question regarding Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Minister Fuziah Salleh’s viral video, Teo stated that no report has been made to the MCMC. She mentioned that Fuziah had instead made a police report and said that the matter is now in the hands of the police for investigation.
The special officer of Fuziah, Aidil Haryman Mat Nor, filed a police report at the Kuantan district police headquarters over a viral video related to the prices of goods. According to Aidil, the video was originally created as a price comparison between Mobile Rahmah Sales and a local supermarket in Langkawi, Kedah, and was not representative of the monthly provision for a family. Irresponsible parties edited the video and shared it with the intention of humiliating Fuziah and inciting public anger.
