KOTA KINABALU: According to sources, a company owner has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly making a false claim relating to the supply of diving equipment to a state agency. The suspect is said to be in his 40s and was apprehended at the MACC head office on Friday night. It is believed that the false claim, amounting to RM18,000, was made in 2019 despite no actual supply being made to the state agency. The diving equipment was intended for Sabah Parks, a state agency. Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy has confirmed the arrest.
Datuk S. Karunanithy further mentioned that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009. This section deals with individuals who provide false documents, such as receipts or invoices, with the intention to deceive.
