PUTRAJAYA: People will now only need to take one theory test to obtain a motorcycle and driving licence, according to Anthony Loke, the Transport Minister. This new ruling will be enforced starting on September 15. Loke stated that if an individual has already taken a theory test to obtain their motorcycle licence, they will not be required to take another theory test to get a driving licence, and vice versa.
This decision was made in response to feedback and requests from the public. Loke clarified that this procedure was in place many years ago but was changed before the most recent decision to revert back to the old policy. However, while applicants will be exempted from taking two theory tests, they will still be required to undergo circuit and on-the-road tests for motorcycles and cars separately.
For example, if someone has a motorcycle licence and is no longer required to take a theory test, they will still need to undertake a circuit and road examination to obtain their driving licence. Loke also mentioned that the curriculum taught in driving classes will now be merged, and applicants will learn the theoretical elements for both motorcycle and car handling simultaneously.
“We believe this new ruling will benefit the public as they no longer need to sit through another six-hour class just to obtain another licence,” said Loke. He also expects the public to save RM100 as a result of this ruling.
