KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor emphasized the importance of any decisions made at the Bumiputra Economic Congress 2024 to consider the needs of the bumiputra community in Sabah. He expressed his hope that any initiatives aimed at strengthening the economy of the Sabah bumiputera community would fall under the jurisdiction of the state government.
In his address at the congress in Putrajaya on Saturday (March 2), the Chief Minister stressed the need for Sabah to lead and coordinate socio-economic development programs effectively. He added that this would enable the state to play a pivotal role in driving progress and prosperity within the community.
Hajiji also called on the Federal unity government to prioritize the welfare of bumiputra communities, including those in Sabah. With Sabah being the second largest state in Malaysia, he highlighted the state’s significant bumiputra population of nearly 90% and their desire to prosper alongside other Malaysians.
“Not only do we aim to support the grassroots economy of the bumiputra, but we also seek to establish a development framework that is inclusive and sustainable for the community,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister affirmed the state government’s commitment to bridging the poverty gap that has impacted the bumiputra community in Sabah. He reiterated the state’s determination to move forward and ensure that prosperity is shared equitably among all Malaysians.
