A Magistrate’s Court in Ipoh has sentenced a 48-year-old contract worker to eight months in jail for threatening his mother with a pair of scissors. V Kumaran pleaded guilty to charges under Sections 506 and 323 of the Penal Code, along with Section 326A. The incident occurred on August 27 at a house in Pesara Klebang Jaya when Kumaran became angry after his mother refused to give him money for groceries because she only had RM50 left. After taking the money and returning RM20, his mother told him to stay at home. In response, Kumaran dragged her to her bedroom, causing her to fall on the bed and floor. He then attempted to choke her and threatened her with the scissors, even threatening to take his own life. Kumaran was later arrested on August 28. The accused’s lawyer, Siti Hajar Hamzah, stated that her client loved his mother but was under stress due to being the sole caretaker while his siblings provided no help. The court sentenced Kumaran to four months for criminal intimidation and eight months for voluntarily causing harm. The sentences will run concurrently from the date of Kumaran’s arrest.
