PETALING JAYA: KK Super Mart, a convenience store chain, issued an apology for inadvertently selling socks with the word Allah printed on them. The company acknowledged its mistake and halted the sale of the socks.
The apology was posted on the company’s Facebook page, expressing regret for the oversight. The statement clarified that the socks were part of a consignment product from a vendor.
“We deeply regret this incident and take it very seriously,” the statement mentioned. KK Super Mart assured that they have reached out to the vendor for further clarification on the matter. The company also appreciated the public’s feedback on the issue.
“Once again, we apologize for any offense caused and will ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future,” the statement concluded.
Additionally, the company shared an apology from the vendor, Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd based in Batu Pahat, Johor. The vendor acknowledged their mistake and expressed regret for not carefully inspecting the product sourced from China.
“Moving forward, we will exercise greater caution and sensitivity in our procurement processes,” the vendor stated. They also issued an apology to the Muslim community and KK Supermart & Superstore Sdn Bhd, the operator of KK Super Mart.
The Facebook post received significant engagement, with over a thousand comments and shares, eliciting a range of reactions from users.
Following the incident, the founder and executive chairman of KK Super Mart, Datuk Seri Dr KK Chai, announced a press conference scheduled for Saturday, March 16, to address the issue.
