    Cops arrest 41 individuals during Ops Hibur in Johor

    A total of 41 people, including five foreigners, were detained in a raid on two entertainment establishments in Johor Baru.

    Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat revealed that the police and the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) carried out the operation under “Ops Hibur”.

    According to Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman, the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) conducted the raid at 1am on Sunday (Nov 12).

    He stated, “At the first location, a total of 139 individuals were inspected, and 10, aged 17 to 45, tested positive for drugs.”

    “The suspects, consisting of seven locals and three foreigners, tested positive for benzodiazepines, tetrahydrocannabinol, and methamphetamine,” he added.

    Comm Kamarul Zaman also confirmed that 24 people, including two foreigners, were apprehended for being intoxicated in public.

    He noted that this act constitutes an offense under Section 19 of the Syariah Criminal Enactments 1997, which carries a penalty of RM3,000, two-year imprisonment, or both if found guilty of public alcohol consumption.

    The second raid was conducted at 2 am, during which 91 individuals were inspected.

    Comm Kamarul Zaman announced, “The second establishment was also operating without a license, and seven people tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol, methamphetamine, and amphetamine.”

    Those arrested range in age from 20 to 68 years, and the cashier was also detained to assist with the investigation, he added.

    He further stated that a public servant at the location who tested negative for drugs was also questioned.

    During the raid, seven audio systems, a firework simulator, and RM1,955 in cash were confiscated.

    All of the suspects are currently in custody until Nov 14.

    The case is being investigated under Sections 6(2) of the Johor Entertainment Places Enactment for operating without a license and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug consumption.
