KUALA LUMPUR: Police apprehended an unemployed individual in relation to the robbery of a mosque donation box.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail announced that they received a report from the mosque’s bilal (person who recites the call to prayer) on Monday (Sept 11).
“The 25-year-old bilal, who also serves as a mosque committee member, reported that while viewing CCTV footage at 6:49am on Monday, he observed a man lurking in the mosque’s corridor at Taman Nirwana and stealing the donation box,” he stated in a press release on Tuesday (Sept 12).
The bilal estimated that a minimum of RM500 had been stolen,” he added.
On the same day at approximately 5pm, the police arrested a 33-year-old suspect at a residence in Taman Angsana Hilir Kuala Lumpur. “We also confiscated at least RM101 in cash as well as clothing believed to have been used during the incident,” Asst Comm Mohd Azam mentioned.
“Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the suspect has a criminal record with 10 prior offenses related to drugs and other crimes,” he stated. He also shared that the suspect tested positive for methamphetamines based on urine tests.
The suspect has been remanded to assist in ongoing investigations,” he further added.
“We have classified the case as theft,” he concluded.
