Police in Johor Baru have seized five firearms, 136 live bullets, and arrested nine suspects in raids on a drug trafficking syndicate. The raids, which involved the state police and personnel from Bukit Aman, took place in Johor Baru, Seri Alam, and Kota Tinggi on Tuesday. The suspects, six men and three women between the ages of 22 and 36, included three brothers and a sister. Two of the suspects tested positive for drugs, and six of them had prior records involving drugs and crime.
The police confiscated 27.5kg of ganja, 1.81kg of heroin, 2.02kg of syabu, 597 grams of ketamine, 540 Yaba pills, and 353 ecstasy pills during the raids. The street value of the seized drugs is estimated to be RM231,462. In addition, five pistols and 136 bullets were recovered. The firearms have been sent for ballistic testing to determine if they were used in a shooting incident in Mersing four months ago.
Illicit cigarettes were also seized, amounting to 111 cartons. The suspects’ belongings, including a motorcycle, four cars, six pieces of jewelry, and RM126,000 in cash, were confiscated as well. All nine suspects have been remanded for six days to assist in the ongoing investigation.
