Seven individuals were arrested by the police in Johor Baru during the anti-online gambling and illegal lottery operation called Ops Dadu Khas. The arrests were made while inspecting seven premises in the state. According to Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat, the arrests took place on Monday, October 2. Among those arrested were six local men and a foreign woman, with ages ranging from 22 to 60. The operation led to the seizure of six mobile phones, five mobile printers, and a cash amount of RM655. Comm Kamarul Zaman reported that a total of 226 premises have been inspected and 256 individuals have been arrested since the beginning of the operation. All the arrested individuals, consisting of 209 men and 47 women, are between the ages of 18 and 66. The case is being investigated under Sections 4A(a) and 4B(a) of the Open House Gambling Act 1953.
According to Comm Kamarul Zaman, the local authorities will cancel the licences of the premises that were inspected and Tenaga Nasional Bhd will cut off their electricity. In addition to the arrests and seizures, the police confiscated 267 mobile phones, 102 mobile printers, and a cash amount of RM48,350. Comm Kamarul Zaman called on individuals with information about gambling and other criminal activities to contact the state police hotline at 07-221 2999.
