PUTRAJAYA: The police have provided clarification regarding a viral video depicting an accident involving two cyclists, stating that the vehicle involved was an ehailing vehicle and that the incident took place on Aug 27 at Jalan Dengkil/Kota Warisan.
Supt Md Noor Aehwan Mohammad, the deputy OCPD of Sepang, explained that both the ehailing driver and one of the cyclists have filed police reports regarding the accident and have had their statements taken. However, the second cyclist involved has yet to report the incident.
Elaborating further, Supt Md Noor Aehwan Mohammad explained that the ehailing driver was en route to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) when the accident occurred at approximately 7.15am. The driver had received a message on their mobile phone via the ehailing app and was checking it at the time of the accident.
“While checking the message, the driver accidentally collided with the back of one of the bicycles, causing the second bicycle to also be hit,” he said in a phone interview on Thursday (Aug 31). He also noted that the vehicle’s front bumper and bonnet sustained damage, while the bicycle suffered damage to its back tyre and rim.
According to Supt Md Noor Aehwan Mohammad, the case has been classified under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules for the driver’s failure to maintain control of the vehicle, resulting in an accident. This information was provided by Bernama.
