SHAH ALAM: According to Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, there was no element of campaigning in the speech given by Fahmi Fadzil at a mosque in Rawang on Sunday (July 30). The Selangor police chief stated that the police had examined a 12-minute video recording of the speech made by the Communications and Digital Minister. “He was explaining (the issue about) the band The 1975 and we have not found any element of campaigning. A total of eight witnesses were called up to assist the investigation,” he told a press conference at the state police headquarters on Wednesday (Aug 2).

Comm Hussein also mentioned that the individual who spread the video has been identified, and the police are currently tracking them down for making a false statement. “We are investigating it under Section 500 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act and Section 4A(1) of the Election Offences Act 1954,” he stated.

Reports had surfaced that the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) was investigating allegations that Fahmi had recently delivered a political speech at a mosque in Kampung Melayu Seri Kundang, Rawang. A Facebook post about this issue had also gained attention, claiming that Fahmi spoke about political matters in a mosque.
